wine label

Shantell was established in 1980 by Shan and Turid Shanmugan. The solid brick winery, is one of the most northerly in Yarra Valley, and was built in 1987.

It is a well equipped modern facility. The fully now mature vineyard provides the winery with a high quality fruit source. Shan was born in Malaysia of Indian parents. He studied medicine at Monash University. Turid came to Australia from Norway. She studied physics at Melbourne University and obtained her Doctorate in 1971. In 1993 Shan graduated from the wine science course at Charles Sturt University.

Shan and Turid produce wines with bright varietal expression - rich and creamy Chardonnay; a spicy cherry like Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Shiraz. The intense Cabernet Sauvignon proved rather popular with the participants of our mini-bus visit with several bottles purchased.
