wine label

The Hill-Smiths have been involved in South Australian wine-making back to 1849 via Samuel Smith and Son (Yalumba) including Sidney Hill-Smith, a director of the company, who died in the 1938 Kyeema air crash with other Barossa wine directors.

This High Eden vineyard was established in 1979 as part of the Yalumba stable. The Hill-Smith Estate brand was launched in 1983 for premium wines from the company’s own estate vines. More recently the brand has been stripped of its traditional reds and currently only produces an excellent Sauvignon Blanc on its own label from the High Eden vineyard.

The winemaker is Louise Rose who helped run her family vineyard in the Yarra Valley (Rising Vineyard). She was the dux of the 1992 Roseworthy graduates and frequently acts as a national and regional wine judge.
