Katnook labelKatnook Estate was established in 1980. It is a large contract grape grower with 330 ha in the region but keeps half for Wayne Stehbens, senior winemaker here for the last quarter of a century, to work his craft.

The large portfolio of wines produced include the budget Riddoch Range, Founders Block and that named after the place itself, the premium Katnook Estate range. The super-premiums are the Prodigy Shiraz and Odyssey Cabernet that retail at around the $100 mark. Over the years the best wines has picked up many international and domestic awards including two Jimmy Watson trophies.

They are in the process of restoring a historic stone woolshed where the Coonawarra's second ever vintage (1896) was made.

Spanish giant Freixenet is the majority owner.
