Hewitson is the brand that highlights the skill of artisan wine-maker and Roseworthy graduate, Dean Hewitson (a former Petaluma wine maker with experience in France and Oregon).

Dean purchases grapes from premium old vine vineyards in South Australia. The cellar door is located in a warehouse, Old Dairy Cold Stores in Mile End (an inner western suburb of Adelaide) near the Keswick Interstate Train Station.

Alternative variety fans will no doubt want to try the Mourvedre (from perhaps the oldest survivng Mourvedre vines in the world), The Baby Bush grown from cuttings of the old vines, the Dry Grown and Ancient Southern Rhone blend and the unusual dry aperitif style Muscadelle although this has been dropped from recent portfolios.

The well made portfolio also includes Ned and Henry's Barossa Valley and Mad Hatter McLaren Vale Shirazes, the Gun Metal Eden Valley Riesling, the LuLu Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blancs, and a Moscato.

(GXY) Tasting: Dec 2005, dry low alcohol aperitif wine derived from old European Muscadelle, crisp grassy peach with a fairly slight honeyed melon taste, very delicate, needs to be consumed with a mild aperitif (ie not strong cheese or spices) (***)
