Sirromet is an ambitious winery located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast that accesses much of its fruit from a variety of high altitude Granite Belt vineyards(ie the Above 820 brand).

Drink: 2016

(GXY) Tasting: Aug 2015, touch of salmon pink colour, fuller style with four months on lees, poached pear and melon with musky spices and hint of quince and flint, talcy finsh with fresh lemony acidity (****)

Sirromet Above 820 Pinot Gris 2012

Purchased:First Choice, Sippy Downs,, Sunshine Coast ($20)

Drink: 2015

(GXY) Tasting: Aug 2015, developed yellow-gold colour, floral and medium bodied pear and melon with honeysuckle and nougat notes with musky spices, the acid is still fresh but drink up soon (***1/2)

Sirromet 820 Above Vineyard Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2011

(GXY) Tasting: May 2012, soft and fresh green apple, passionfruit and cut grass with a touch of red capsicum and snow pear on the chalky finish, gentle citric acids (***)

Sirromet Vineyard Shiraz 2009

Purchased: First Choice, Sippy Downs, Qld ($15)

Drink: 2013

(GXY) Tasting: May 2012, some Viognier input, medium bodied black cherry, mulberry and dark plum with white pepper and orange flesh nuances, smooth with ample mocha, clove and vanilla from the French and US oak with a touch of dark chocolate, powdery tannins, solid drink now BBQ wine (***)

Sirromet Above 820 Pinot Gris 2009

Purchased: BWS, Wurtulla, Sunshine Coast, Qld ($15)

Drink: 2011

(GXY) Tasting: Jan 2010, creamier and fuller bodied than most Australian Gris, spicy pear and honeydew melon with honeysuckle, matchstick and paw paw notes, chalky lemon acids, fractionally short but continues the winery’s development of this richer style (***1/2)

Sirromet Perfect Day Unwooded Chardonnay 2009

Purchased: BWS, Wurtulla, Sunshine Coast, Qld ($10)

Drink: 2010

(GXY) Tasting: Jan 2010, brightly flavoured melon, yellow peach and kiwifruit, buttery palate with honeysuckle notes and a hint of almond, fine chalky base with a gentle mandarin and lemon acid finish, pushes enough buttons for a sweet unoaked fruity to make this a pleasant summer evening quaffer (***)

Sirromet Above 820 Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Purchased: BWS, Wurtulla, Sunshine Coast, Qld ($16)

Drink: 2011

(GXY) Tasting: Jan 2010, juicy and spicy blackcurrant and raspberry entry with eucalpyt notes, reasonable mid-palate depth but fruit hollows out a bit too soon on the finish leaving it reliant on the overt chestnut-vanilla oak, fine grained oak tannins (***)

Sirromet Above 820 Rose 2006

Drink: 2008

(GXY) Tasting: Dec 2007, from high altitude Cabernet Franc, attractive rose petal pink colour, blackberry and strawberry but is bone dry with no residual sugar showing, spicy aspects with the subtle menthol touch adding crispness and focus, some tannic structure leads to minerally finish, an unexpected discovery (****)

Drink: 2008

(GXY) Tasting: Dec 2007, soft style showing spicy pear, musk and honeysuckle but is quite dry, a touch of citrus acids on the finish although it ends a bit hollow and lacks genuine length, better than the 2004 but still a work in progress (***)

Sirromet Pinot Gris 2004

Purchased: Morningside Shops, Brisbane

Drink: 2006

(GXY) Tasting: March 2007, yellow gold colour showing some toasty development, mango, pineapple and honeyed pear aromas, the palate is surprisingly dry, almost bitter, given the nose (**1/2)

(GXY) Tasting: Dec 2006, blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro and Merlot, array of raspberry, stewed plum and blackcurrant aromas, spicy palate is medium bodied with fruitcake and pepper features with cinnamon, liquorice and menthol hints, smooth tannins, mocha-vanilla oak (***)

(GXY) Tasting: Dec 2006, spicy plum and prune, medium-full bodied with well balanced herbally orange-apricot Viognier lift, liquorice and dark chocolate notes, sweet cedar-vanilla oak (***1/2)

Drink: 2010

(GXY) Tasting: Dec 2006, plum and prune flavours with liquorice and mint notes, slightly sour palate is balanced with fruitcake and pepper features from the 30% Merlot, subtle choc-vanilla oak, grippy tannins (***)
