Coopers Creek Reserve Syrah 2016

Drink: 2030

(GXY) Tasting: Nov 2017, Syrah Trophy at Air NZ Wine Awards 2017, 1% Viognier co-ferment, elegant, juicy and floral black cherry and plum with black pepper, violet and meaty notes, long and medium bodied with firm, chalky tannins and savoury mocha-cedar oak (*****)

Coopers Creek Select Vineyard Chalk Ridge Hawke’s Bay Syrah 2007

Purchased: Not ($A28/ $NZ27)

Drink: 2014

(GXY) Tasting: Feb 2009, Silver Medal Air New Zealand Show 2008, small Viognier input, silky dark plum and blackberry, peppery and medium bodied palate with plenty of glycerol and the herbal Viognier lift, spicy American oak, there is a bit of acid kick although the tannins seem to be ripe (***1/2)

Coopers Creek Hawke's Bay Chalky Ridge Select Viognier 2005

Drink: 2008

(GXY) Tasting: Feb 2007, quite dry with delicate almond and peach flavours overlying a backbone of stone fruit acidity, creamy mid-palate shows spice and almond features, fresh acid finish (***1/2)

Coopers Creek Hawke's Bay Swamp Reserve Chardonnay 2005

Purchased: Not ($A28)

Drink: 2009

(GXY) Tasting: Feb 2007, complex nose showing grapefruit and smoky bacon notes, creamy wholemeal palate showing ample malolactic and lees inputs before sliding into charry and spicy oak, good lingering acid finish despite the heavily worked palate (***1/2)

Coopers Creek Hawke's Bay Syrah 2005

Drink: 2009

(GXY) Tasting: Feb 2007, light-medium bodied style showing blackberry and dark plum, smooth palate to highlight pepper and dried herb features, unobtrusive oak, fine-grained tannins with some savoury notes on the finish (***)

Coopers Creek Hawke's Bay Merlot 2006

Purchased: Not ($A19)

Drink: 2007

(GXY) Tasting: Feb 2007, still quite tight, showing sweet plum and red cherry features, light-medium bodied with only light pepper features, a touch tarry and stewed, light charry oak with some smooth tannins, fairly ordinary (**1/2)
