Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz 2008

Purchased: Prince Wine Store, South Melbourne ($27)

(GXY) Tasting: Mar 2010, a small Viognier input lifts the perfume of the nose, meaty and deep set blackberry and redcurrant with black pepper, liquorice and toasty clove, cinnamon and nutmeg notes, medium bodied with minerally and savoury complexity, very fine tannins, perhaps lacking the length of the best vintages (***1/2)

Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz 2006

Purchased: Not ($28)

Drink: 2013

(GXY) Tasting: June 2007, built around a tight core of blackberry, blueberry, cherry and plum fruits, the medium bodied palate has minty and musky nuances with underlying earthiness, framed with liquorice, dark chocolate and cedar-vanilla oak that also add some savoury features. There's some tannic and acid grip to sustain medium term cellaring (****)
